Temporary Bridge Closure – Chelmer & Indooroopilly

Walter Taylor Bridge night works

TEMPORARY BRIDGE CLOSURE – Chelmer and Indooroopilly

WHAT WORKS ARE COMING UP?

As part of Brisbane City Council’s maintenance program, BCC will undertake essential repairs on the Walter Taylor Bridge to maintain the structure and safe access for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.

WHEN WILL THIS WORK TAKE PLACE?

Start Monday 20 May 2024

Finish Friday 24 May 2024, weather and maintenance conditions permitting

Time and day 9pm – 5am, Monday to Friday

These works are required to be completed at night, when traffic volumes are lowest.

The project will be rescheduled to Monday 27 May to Friday 31 May 2024 from 9pm to 5am, if works are impacted by poor weather or maintenance conditions.

WHAT DOES THIS WORK INCLUDE?

Works will include:

  • bridge joints replacement
  • footpath works
  • bridge maintenance
  • bridge, road, and footpath closures.

Equipment and machinery, including lighting towers, and tools including jackhammers and grinders will be used to complete the works.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?

To complete the works as quickly and safely as possible, the following traffic changes are required during project work hours:

Full bridge closure (inclusive of road and footpath)
From Monday 20 May to Friday 24 May 2024, both the northbound and southbound lanes will be closed from 9pm to 5am. Motorists should consider this as part of any travel plans. The roadway will be reopened outside of work hours.

Full footpath closure
The footpath on the bridge and footpath under the bridge will be closed during work hours.

Pedestrians and cyclists’ access will be via Jack Pesch Bridge. The footpath will be reopened outside of work hours.

Queensland Police Service (QPS), traffic control and signage, including variable message signs (VMS) will be in place to direct motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists of changed traffic conditions.

The public should follow all the signs and directions on site for safety. Please refer to temporary detour routes.

Nearby residents and pedestrian users will experience increased and persistent noise, lighting, dust and vehicle movements in the area. BCC values your patience and cooperation while undertaking this important work.

The event is finished.
