Pavement Resurfacing Works – Downs Street, North Ipswich

Pavement repair and resurfacing works Downs Street, North Ipswich

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be undertaking pavement repair and resurfacing works in both directions on Downs Street, from Canning Lane to the roundabout at Pine Street, North Ipswich from early February 2026.

These works are being undertaken as part of TMR’s maintenance program to improve the road surface and provide a safe road network.

Work activities

  • removal and replacement of asphalt
  • reinstatement of temporary line marking
  • final line marking.

Timing

  • Works are scheduled to commence in early February 2026 and are expected to take approximately six weeks to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.
  • Typical construction hours will be from 8pm to 5am, Sunday to Friday.
  • Night works are required for road user safety, and to avoid what would otherwise be extensive traffic queuing and disruption to the road network.
  • While most of the works will be undertaken at night, some Saturday or other out of hours works may be required.

Expected impacts

  • Access to Downs Street, from The Terrace to Flint Street will often be detoured during the works.
  • Temporary traffic changes will be in effect including detours, road shoulder closures, lane closures with traffic control, changes to traffic flow, temporary speed reductions and short-term traffic disruptions.
  • While works are underway, detours will be in place between 8pm and 5am.
  • Please allow extra time when planning your travel and follow the directions of roadside signage and traffic controllers.
  • Access to and from private properties will be maintained.
  • Nearby residents and businesses can expect increased noise, dust and odour. Reversing beepers and flashing lights are a safety requirement and will be in use during working hours.
  • Heavy machinery will be in use and nearby residents and businesses can expect some increased noise, dust and odour.
  • Final line marking works to improve the reflectivity and longevity of the road line marking will be applied approximately six weeks after the completion of road resurfacing.

On completion, TMR officers will continue to review the site for up to three months. During this time TMR will assess the work undertaken for longevity and quality. In some cases, TMR may need to do further work at the location to rectify any defects. Every effort will be made to minimise impacts on the local community and surrounds.

TMR appreciates your patience and cooperation while these important works are carried out.
