Intersection Upgrade – Esher Street & Toohey Road, Tarragindi
Esher Street and Toohey Road intersection upgrade – Tarragindi
Start of construction
We’re ready to start works to make this intersection safer and easier to use for all road users.
What does this work include?
- Installing traffic lights with signalised pedestrian crossings.
- Widening the Sexton Street approach to the intersection and installing a dedicated left-turn lane for vehicles turning left into Esher Street.
- Constructing a right-turn lane on Toohey Road to allow queueing of vehicles turning right into Esher Street.
- Constructing a new pathway on the eastern side of Sexton Street and upgrading the existing pathway on the corner of Esher Street and Toohey Road, including new kerb ramps.
- Installing yellow no stopping lines on all approaches to the intersection.
- Installing a new guard rail and retaining wall on the Sexton Street bend.
- Installing new road pavement, signage, line marking and landscaping.
Laydown area
A temporary laydown area for construction materials and equipment, including two site caravans, will be established within Council verge alongside the Sexton Street Park carpark. This space will be clearly delineated to ensure safe access and minimal disruption to people living in and travelling through the area.
Tree removals
We’re removing some trees on the Sexton Street bend at Toohey Road to construct the new footpath and widen the road. We will replant trees within the local area, in line with Council’s commitment to keep our suburbs cooler, shadier and greener.
When will this work take place?
Start: February 2026.
Finish: Mid-2026, weather and site conditions permitting
Time and day: Majority works will be at night, 7pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday. Some works will be during the day, 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Every effort will be made to complete particularly noisy works prior to 11pm, where possible.
What does this mean for me?
If you live in the area or are travelling through the intersection, you may experience:
- increased noise, truck movements, low level dust and vibrations, and light from mobile light towers
- changes in traffic conditions including minor traffic delays, reduced speed limits and temporary lane closures.
Traffic control will be on site during working hours to help you move through the area.
