Black Spot Project – Norman Park
Bennetts Road, Macrossan Avenue and Crown Street black spot project – Norman Park
START OF CONSTRUCTION
WHAT WORKS ARE COMING UP?
We are upgrading the Bennetts Road, Macrossan Avenue and Crown Street intersection in Norman Park, to improve safety for all road users.
WHY IS THIS WORK HAPPENING?
This intersection has been identified as a location requiring safety improvements due to 11 recorded crashes in the area, between 2016 and 2023, six of which involved vehicles turning right from Macrossan Avenue into Bennetts Road.
WHAT DOES THIS WORK INCLUDE?
-
Removing the right turn from Macrossan Avenue into Bennetts Road to reduce the risk of crashes and improve traffic flow.
-
Upgrading the right turn signals, from Crown Street into Bennetts Road, to solid green and red arrows, to fully control the right turn movement.
-
Installing raised zebra crossings on the left turn slip lanes on Crown Street and Bennetts Road to promote slower speeds and increase driver awareness.
-
Installing new kerb ramps and footpath connections to improve access and safety for people walking and riding.
-
Upgrading the stormwater network at the intersection to improve drainage by installing a new stormwater gully.
-
Upgrading the pedestrian fencing on the southern side of Macrossan Avenue with weld mesh fencing to enhance pedestrian protection.
-
Installing new signage, line marking and landscaping.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?
If you live in or are travelling through the area, you may experience the below impacts.
- Increased noise, truck movements, vibration, dust and light from mobile light towers.
- Changed traffic conditions, including minor traffic delays, reduced speed limits, lane closures and detours.
