Safety Improvements – Old Northern Road, Everton Park

Old Northern Road safety improvement works, Everton Park

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will be undertaking road surface treatment and safety improvement works on Old Northern Road in Everton Park from early February 2026.

These works are being undertaken between Drake Street and Cayley Street to improve safety for all road users.

Work activities

• Applying high-friction surface treatments
• Installing a safety barrier (guardrail) and pedestrian fencing near Everton Park State School
• Improving line marking

Timing

• Works will commence in early February 2026 and conclude by late April 2026, construction and weather conditions permitting.
• Typical construction hours will be from 7 pm to 5 am, Sunday to Thursday.
• Night works are necessary to ensure road user safety and to avoid what would otherwise be extensive traffic queueing and disruption to the road network.
• While most of the works will be undertaken at night, some daytime activity may be required.
• The high-friction surface treatment works require dry weather conditions – if conditions are unfavourable, work will be undertaken at the next available opportunity.

Expected impacts

• Temporary traffic changes will be in effect including reduced speed limits and road shoulder and lane closures (single-lane access on Old Northern Road will be maintained in both directions throughout).
• Please allow extra time when planning your travel and follow the directions of roadside signage and traffic controllers.
• Heavy plant and machinery will be used and nearby residents and businesses can expect short-term impacts including increased noise, dust, and odour.
• Reversing beepers and flashing lights are safety requirements and will be used throughout working hours.
• Access to private properties will be maintained during the works. Where temporary access changes are required, property or business owners will be contacted directly.
