Road Maintenance Works Cunningham Highway, Swanbank

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) would like to advise that road works will take place outbound on the Cunningham Highway southbound entry ramp from Redbank Plains Road, Swanbank.

While works are underway, a detour will be required for one night.

These works are being undertaken as part of TMR’s routine maintenance program to improve the road surface and enhance road safety for all road users.

Work activities

• Removal and replacement of asphalt.
• Reinstatement of line marking.

Timing

• Works will take place late April 2024 and are expected to take one night to complete, construction and weather conditions permitting.
• Typical construction hours will be from 8pm to 5am, Sunday to Friday. Night works are required for road user safety, and to avoid what would otherwise be extensive traffic queuing and disruption to the road network. While most of the works will be undertaken at night, some Saturday or other out of hours works during the day may be required.
• While works are underway, access to the Cunningham Highway southbound entry ramp from Redbank Plains Road will be detoured for one night between 9pm and 5am:
  • Westbound traffic on Redbank Plains Road will be detoured as follows:
    • Traffic will turn right onto the Cunningham Highway northbound entry ramp at the Mary Street / Redbank Plains Road intersection.
    • From here traffic will continue northbound on the Cunningham Highway and take the Aberdare Street exit ramp then turn right onto Aberdare Street and continue onto Chum Street and turn right onto the Cunningham Highway southbound entry ramp.
  • Eastbound traffic on Redbank Plains Road will be detoured as follows:
    • Traffic will continue down to the Newhill Drive roundabout and complete a U-turn back onto Redbank Plains Road, then turn right onto the Cunningham Highway northbound entry ramp at the Mary Street / Redbank Plains Road intersection.
    • From here traffic will continue northbound on the Cunningham Highway as mentioned above.

Expected impacts

• Changed traffic conditions: Temporary traffic detours, lane and road closures, temporary speed limit reductions and short-term traffic disruptions. Please allow extra time when planning your travel and follow the directions of roadside signage and traffic controllers.
• Temporary construction noise: Heavy machinery will be in use, nearby residents and businesses can expect increased noise, dust and odour. Reversing beepers and flashing lights will be used for safety.

On completion, TMR officers will continue to review the site for up to three months. During this time TMR will assess the work undertaken for longevity and quality.
