Intersection maintenance works – Finucane Road and Abelia Street, Alexandra Hills
The Department of Transport and Main Roads will be repairing the access ramps and pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Finucane Road and Abelia Street from late May 2025. These maintenance works are being undertaken to improve safety for pedestrians and active transport users.
Work activities
- Demolishing and reconstructing ramps and concrete traffic islands to extend the width of the ramps and improve grading.
- Cut back the centre median traffic island that is encroaching the pedestrian crossing and lay asphalt in the disturbed area.
- Reinstate line marking to match the width of the new ramps.
Timing
- Works will commence late May 2025 and be completed in late June 2025, construction and weather conditions permitting.
- Typical construction hours will be from 7pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday.
- Night works are required for road user safety, and to avoid what would otherwise be extensive traffic queuing and disruption to the road network.
- While most of the works will be undertaken at night, some Saturday or other out of hours works may be required.
Expected impacts
- Traffic changes will be in effect, including lane closures with traffic control, temporary speed reductions and short-term traffic disruptions.
- Please allow extra time when planning your travel and follow the directions of roadside signage and traffic controllers.
- Nearby residents and businesses can expect to experience short term impacts including increased noise, dust, and odour during the works.
- Access to private properties: Access to private properties will be maintained during the works. Where temporary access changes are required, property/business owners will be contacted directly.
- Reversing beepers and flashing lights will be used for safety.
- Temporary diversions to the bike and pedestrian footpath may be in place during works. Please follow traffic control in place.
On completion, TMR officers will continue to review the site for up to three months. During this time TMR will assess the work undertaken for longevity and quality. In some cases, TMR may need to do further work at the location to rectify any defects.
Every effort will be made to minimise impacts on the local community and surrounds.
TMR appreciates your patience and cooperation while these important works are carried out.
